Professor of Materials Science with a unique understanding of the formation mechanisms of low-dimensional structures, their functionalization for bespoke materials design. Established several innovative laboratories, e.g. Molecular Nanostructures Group at Leibniz Institute for Solid State and Materials Science, Dresden, in Germany. He has participated in joint research efforts with collaborators at Peking University, the University of Oxford, NASA Ames Research Laboratories, CNRS, Cornell University, Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology (SAIT) and other leading research universities and institutes.

He currently holds a Chair Professor position at the College of Energy & at the Soochow Institute for Energy & Materials Innovations (SIEMIS), at Soochow University, in China and concurrently as a full professor – ERA Chair holder EBEAM at VSB – Technical University of Ostrava in the Czech Republic. Professor Mark H. Rümmeli has published numerous papers appearing in leading journals such as Science and Nature Nanotechnology. His research interests include nano-materials, nano-bio studies, and nano-materials in Li ion batteries and electron beam driven materials science.
